My First Tattoo

For years I have wanted to get a tattoo but always been afraid of how painful it would be. When I'd mention it to friends and family members I would get mixed reactions like "You couldn't handle that amount of pain" or "GO FOR IT!". My younger sister is now covered in them,so I thought that if she could deal with the pain than surely I can. Her boyfriend Tim has become a fully qualified Tattoo Artist working in Maidstone so I sent him an image of a Fern Leaf, within a couple of days he had copied the leaf using his iPad and showed me the design, I loved it!

I booked the tattoo on a Sunday for the following Friday and didn't really tell anyone, I think this helped me not think too much about it. When it came to the day it still didn't feel real until the drive there, I started to feel anxious and thoughts of the pain were starting to fill in my head.

When it began I was really surprised. Of course there was some pain involved, but it wasn't half as bad as everyone says!!! Sometimes you couldn't even feel the needle, especially the shading part. My tattoo took around an hour and a half to do and now I think of it is actually quite large for my first one.

If you're living in Kent and you want a tattoo look up @_goodetattoo on Instagram, he works at Gypsie Rose Tattoo in Maidstone and charges £70 an hour.

You're advised to not keep the cling wrap on your arm for longer than 1-2 hours, the sweat building up in the cling wrap is dirty and could infect your tattoo. If you see someone wearing cling wrap for a ver long time, they are just showing off the fact they got a new tattoo. Wash your tattoo softly 3-4 times a day and DO NOT PEAL when any scabbing starts to happen.

Its been a couple of weeks since and it is healing nicely. Though I was slightly bad and didn't buy the recommend Nappy Cream for it (this is apparently the best cream for healing). Instead I used coconut oil and a body butter by Soap and Glory and it was been absolutely fine.
